Jonathan Ross & Russell Brand Suspension – Right Or Wrong?

Update: Russell Brand has gone from being suspended this morning, to resigning in the last few minutes.

At the time of writing, more than 18,000 people have complained to the BBC about the behaviour of Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand in regard of leaving messages on the answerphone of 78 year old actor, Andrew Sachs, about his granddaughter, Georgina Baillie (aka Voluptua of the Satanic Sluts – see a gallery of Georgina’s pictures).

The BBC Director General has justified taking all of Brand’s and Ross’s TV and radio shows off there air, because he says most BBC license payers are angry about the pair’s actions. But has the BBC DG assessed the public mood correctly?  There are many more than 18,000 license payers.   We don’t know what the public really thinks of this, and the media has done a bad job of reporting the story in an even-handed way which is bound to distort the public reaction.  Specifically, the media has taken a clear position against Ross and Brand, and not let the public know much about Georgina’s work – for example,  see the link to her gallery above and the example photo from said gallery below.

I’m not taking sides in this.  I’m simply pointing out that coverage has been one-sided, and implied to the public that Georgina is a delicate flower that wouldn’t dream of engaging in any kind of controversial behaviour herself; and so would be shocked and upset by Ross’s and Brand’s actions.

So, what do you think about the whole episode?  Please register your opinion in the poll above.

  1. I can’t believe how much people are over reacting to this. Let Jonathan and Russell apologize and mean it. Then the Sachs family should accept the apology and put the whole thing behind them.
