Today Is Sentence Day

Today is the day when the court will sentence George Michael for the recent “being unfit to drive through drugs” case. There will be some presentations made by both prosecution and defence. And then the judge will hand out the sentence.

As I understand it, it looks like this:

  • 12 month driving ban (mandatory)
  • Fine – up to £5,000
  • Jail – up to six months

He won’t go to jail. He might not even get the maximum fine. He will lose his license for 12 months. All standard stuff. The interesting part will be what the judge says during summing up and sentencing…

Update: the events in court today have increased the seriousness of this… and the sentence may reflect that.    That may mean a jail sentence is appropriate.
